Wes & Hal ... having some fun ...

A brief update from one of our own on site (GHNI-Jeff Latsa) sums up this yet another great GILPP-Geneva Institute for Leadership and Public Policy going on all this week in Geneva, Switzerland. So glad GHNI, though not a huge organization, can have such an impact as this, via eager leadership from impoverished nations. Enjoy …

Greetings from Geneva, Switzerland — the home of Global Hope (and the UN). This week I am an instructor at the Geneva Institute for Leadership and Public Policy, put on by GHNI and hosted at the UN. As one of the architects of TCD, I have been asked to teach on “The Mandate of Sustainable Development for the Rural Poor.” I will be teaching government officials many of the same lessons I teach illiterate villagers around the world. I hope the bureaucrats are able to understand the material. 🙂

The Geneva Institute brings emerging leaders from emerging nations together to talk about how to draft legislation that are just and will help the most vulnerable in their countries. Eradicating poverty is a big part of that. However there are many challenges facing these nations. Here is a sample of some of the nations represented here and this issues they face:

Afghanistan – New president to be announced any day now

Myanmar – Just emerging from fifty years of military dictatorship. We are training their new leaders

Northern Iraq (Kurdistan) – Facing recent attacks by ISIS

Nigeria – Facing attacks by Boko Haram (who kidnapped the 300 schoolgirls).
Ethiopia – The only non-Muslim nation on the Red Sea

Egypt – Still struggling with the fallout from the Arab Spring

Syria – A Kurdish representative is here

Thank you for your role in impacting the nations.

Wow … thanks Jeff!

New Kolkata(Calcutta) Computer Centre Excitement & Story …

398
Unexpected Dream Fulfilled

“Shankar is very excited in his computer learning experience. He is from an extremely poor economic background, and his parents do not want him to continue with his studies. He wants to learn computers. When he first joined here, he said that he had never sat in front of a computer before. He is learning very fast.

‘I had never thought in my life that I can learn computer. But one day my friend asked me whether I would be interested to join a computer class. I thought that I could not even pursue my school education properly, how is it possible that I can learn computers?

‘Also I had in my mind that anything related to computers are very expensive. I can never dream of affording it. But when I came here, I came to know that computer education can also be affordable.

‘Though initially I did not get any support from my home, yet still I decided to continue with this class, as I am finding interest in it. I managed to get one old keyboard at home, and practice typing, because I also dream to use computer to its fullest.’

“We are now in the 3rd month of our new Kolkata(Calcutta) Computer Training Centre. Our journey had been very well. The students are really catching up pace in their learning. After going through some theory lessons, now each one of them are provided with individual computer terminals for practicing whatever they have learned. They are done with almost all the important features and uses of Microsoft Word, Powerpoint. Next is basics of Windows OS, like installing and uninstalling applications, Internet, and others. They are taught by constantly reminding them that every small detail that they are learning will be helpful for their future. Now they can say that computer education has never been so fun before. ”
Thank you for helping to change the world… Biman

A Participatory Approach in the Community Projects

By, Isabelle Bourgeois

We are all aware of the challenges connected to each other, inseparable that arise in the world. The situation remains very fragile. The load for all is growing. The needs are enormous and constantly increasing. They are factors of violence, protest and desertion of their living areas by the affected populations, in particular those affected by extreme poverty.

The NGO Global Hope Network International (GHNI) has experienced positive examples of communities transformed by the active participation of people, groups and villages belonging to the marginalized in the world’s poorest areas. For 12 years in 40 partnership countries, it offers emergency, humanitarian aid and initiates community projects of 3-5 years.

Despite the risks, Global Hope Network International (GHNI) makes it a priority to help and give hope in the most heavily insulated, inaccessible and poorly developed areas. By setting up and carrying out community development projects (TCD), the organization supports, motivates and equips communities so that everyone can participate in the decisions and actions affecting its own life, its own development and that of its entourage.

These collaborative projects are spaces for dialogue and training. They allow individuals to gain confidence in themselves and their relatives. They contribute to help people to have a sense of belonging, to be essential actors in the community while encouraged to stay and develop their own place of life.
